What are page labels?
Page labels serve as descriptive markers that help you navigate long documents.
Common conventions include Roman numerals for front matter (i, ii, iii, iv, etc.), uppercase letters for appendices (A.1, A.2, etc.), or chapter/page combinations like 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2.
In PDF terminology, these markers are called page labels , and provide optional descriptive information for on-screen viewing. This is different from the internal number-based page indexing inside PDF files.
